After nearly 54 minutes of scoreless action, the Hamilton Bulldogs answered with two goals within the last five minutes of regulation to push past the Rochester Americans last evening for a 2-0 victory at The Blue Cross Arena.

Last night’s contest marked the final matchup between the two North Division rivals this season. With the loss, the Amerks fall to 30-32-3-3, while the Bulldogs advance to 36-24-1-6 with the victory.

The Amerks next action will be on the road this Saturday night against Grand Rapids.

You Mean There's An App For That?
In Boise, Idaho, technology proved to be 21-year-old Alexander A. Welch's undoing.
He's now facing five years in prison all because of an app he got for his smart phone.

Apparently there's a police car lights app that flashes blue and red lights from your phone. Welch allegedly used the app to try and pull over another car. A driver told police that a car behind them flashed a blue and red light and when they pulled over, the car with the flashing lights pulled in behind them briefly and then drove away.

That made the first driver suspicious so he followed the other car and called police. Police eventually found both cars and it was when they were talking Welch that police found an application on his Verizon cell phone that flashed a blue and red light. At that point, he was arrested. An enterprising young 13-year-old boy from Marysville, Ohio has launched his own line of scented candles for men!

The manly fragrances include bacon, New York-style pizza, sawdust and the smell of a fresh leather baseball mitt. Hart Main says he got the idea for his "Mancans" when he was making fun of his sister for selling candles with girly scents for a school fundraiser.

Hart launched his company last Thanksgiving, making the candles using scores of empty cans from soup he donated to a soup kitchen. So far he's sold 500 candles at $5 bucks a pop and has made enough profit to buy himself a really nice bike! (WCMH-TV News)

Better To Spend Your Money While In Prison!
Here's a pro-tip: If you're in prison, better to spend any money you make rather than save it. Just ask Kensley Hawkins, an inmate at the Stateville Correctional Center in Joliet, Illinois.

He was sentenced to 60 years for the 1980 slaying of a 65-year-old man and attempting to kill two Chicago policemen. While incarcerated, he joined the prison work program and started earning $75 a week -- apparently spending none of it. He's now saved up a whopping $11,000 but the state says "no way" and wants that money back claiming he owes $455,203.14 to cover the costs of his incarceration since 1982.

Hawkins is fighting in court to stop the state from seizing the money so it looks like the issue of whether the state can repossess the meager wages paid to inmates will be determined by the Illinois Supreme Court. Hawkins' lawyers, who are representing him for free, say the case defies logic. (Chicago Tribune)

Two Teen Girls, 459 Sex Charges!
In Osceola County, Florida, 40-year-old David Vaughn Joseph has been charged with 459 sex-related charges all from his interaction with two teen girls.

The charges include three counts of sexual battery, 180 counts of lewd or lascivious battery, 90 counts of lewd or lascivious molestation, 60 counts of lewd or lascivious exhibition, one count of lewd & lascivious conduct, 90 counts of protection of minors of certain acts, two counts of aggravated battery, one count of kidnapping, 31 counts of battery and one count of interference of custody. And police say all of this happened just late last year with a 14-year-old and a 15-year-old. He was arrested in January after the 15-year-old finally called police. (Orlando Sentinel)

Many people in Florida will be praying for heavy rains on April 8!

Bozard Ford, a car dealership in St. Augustine, has promised all customers who buy a car in March their new wheels will be free if it rains an inch or more the morning of April 8.

General manager Jeff King explained, "When you buy a lottery ticket, you don't expect to win, but you sure check the numbers." He says the promotion has already generated a lot of interest. According to National Weather Service data from the last decade, it has rained on April 8 at least three times -- but topped an inch only once. And believe it or not, King says he actually hopes it does rain and he loses as he figures the enormous publicity will be well worth the payoffs. (Sun Sentinel)

Talk About Burning Your Girlfriend!
In Ottawa, Canada, 50-year-old firefighter Jean Sigouin was given 12 months probation after he branded his girlfriend's backside with a hot spatula!

His now ex-girlfriend bent over the kitchen counter and Sigouin brought the hot metal close to her rear. Someone moved and she got burned. The judge in the case determined it was "not a situation of a high-level of violence, more of a joking situation that got out of hand." But he gave the probation anyway because he said Sigouin appears to be "careless in his dealings with female partners."

That conclusion came in part from the fact that media attention to the case caught the eye of Sigouin's ex-wife, who gave prosecutors a court document showing Sigouin received a conditional discharge for making threats back in 1998 which didn't appear on his criminal record check. (CA Canoe)

Texas Bank Robber Shows 2 Forms of Idea Before He Takes the Money
DALLAS (AP) - A hapless bank robber who abided by a Dallas teller's request to provide two forms of identification before she could give him money is going to prison.

A judge sentenced 49-year-old Nathan Wayne Pugh of Sachse (SAK'-see) to more than eight years on Tuesday.

Pugh tried to hold up a Dallas Wells Fargo Bank in July. The teller stalled Pugh by telling him she needed to see two forms of ID. Pugh showed her his Wells Fargo debit card and a state ID card.

He was captured as he tried to flee with $800.

Pugh pleaded guilty in October to a bank robbery charge. He was already on parole for two aggravated robberies.

Arizona Man Gets Probation in Bloodsucking Case
PHOENIX (AP) - An Arizona man has been sentenced to three years of probation for stabbing a man who refused to let him suck his blood.

Maricopa County Superior Court says 24-year-old Aaron Homer, of Chandler, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and was sentenced Monday.

The Arizona Republic reports 25-year-old Robert Maley once let his roommates suck his blood.
But when Maley refused a second time on Oct. 4, he was stabbed.

Chandler police said Maley lived with Homer and his girlfriend.

Maley said the two men were into "vampire stuff."

When Fidelity Investments surveyed American millionaires, 42% of them said they don't actually feel rich. Many of them said they would need at least $7.5 million to feel that way. To qualify as a millionaire for the Fidelity survey, participants had to have at least $1 million in investable assets that did not include real estate or retirement accounts.

The reality is that everyone who qualified for the survey is wealthy, but they don't feel that way because they are worried about outliving their assets.

Beware of Dog Insurance
A Texas state law could force canine owners to purchase policies that would cover any mayhem that roving Rovers cause.

The proposed law would require dog owners to insure any un-neutered, male pooch who weighs more than 20 pounds. The policy would pay for damages that their dogs cause when he's either off a leash or out of his yard. "Unrestrained, un-neutered male dogs over 20 pounds have a higher tendency toward aggression," claims State Rep. Ruth Jones McClendon a Democrat from San Antonio, who sponsored the bill. "This does not in any way penalize dogs or prevent people from enjoying the benefits of dog ownership," she says.

The lady legislator submitted the bill after a dog in her district got loose and attacked a neighborhood man. "He contacted the dog's owner," says McClendon. "And the owner did not take responsibility for the dog's actions." Still, many dog lovers are howling mad about the measure. "It's ridiculous," says a spokesman for a nationwide hunter's group. "Why male dogs only? Why dogs 20 pounds and not 17? Why only unaltered dogs?" (National Examiner)

Buffalo Sabre Great Died From Heart Disease
An autopsy has determined that former Buffalo Sabres forward and "French Connection" line member Richard "Rick" Lionel Martin died of hypertensive arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease, a serious form of heart disease.

Martin's car crossed a lane of traffic and hit a pole on Main Street and Salt Road in Clarence around noon Sunday.

"Eyewitnesses stated that when Mr. Martin's vehicle began to drift out of the westbound lane, crossing eastbound into the shoulder he was seen with his head slumped, and possibly his eyes closed previous to impact," said New York State Police Capt. Steven A. Nigrelli.

Two passers-by and eventually a state trooper performed CPR on Martin, who remained unresponsive when removed from the vehicle.

Martin was pronounced dead at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital at 12:48 p.m. He was 59.

Former Wall St. analyst J.C. Davies has written a new book that's created a wave of politically incorrect controversy. The book is called: I Got The Fever: Love, What's Race Gotta Do With It? and in it, Davies, who is white, reveals the politically incorrect answers to a number of bedroom questions regarding men of different races.

She based the book on hundreds of interviews and her own dating experiences. Some of her revelations: Latino men are macho and possessive, Asians are terrible in bed and black men don't like talking about Al Sharpton. She says she has an Iranian-Jewish boyfriend and describes his expression in bed as a "terrorist face."

Davies said, "No one has the balls to write about sex and culture in a real way. You have to make it super PC and be the professor of blah-de-blah and have charts and graphs." She began writing the book after she was laid off by Goldman Sachs last October and faced losing her apartment in Midtown, Manhattan.

And Now Some Good News From Japan!
It's rare these days to hear any happy stories coming out of Japan but here's one. 60-year-old Hiromitsu Shinkawa was successfully rescued from the roof of his house -- that had floated ten miles out to sea -- FOR TWO DAYS!

Mr. Shinkawa's house in Fukushima had been ripped from its foundation and swept away by the retreating tsunami. He was finally spotted waving a piece of red cloth, while clinging to the wreckage. Sadly, his wife was swept away by the storm and is still reported missing. Shinkawa said, "Several helicopters and ships passed by, but none of them noticed me. I thought that day was going to be the last day of my life." He was reported to be in "good condition" after being taken to hospital by helicopter.

Rescue officials said mild weather and relatively calm seas had helped him stay adrift for 48 hour. (Kyodo News)

In Gary, Indiana, police arrested a 14-year-old boy who allegedly stole a church van and drove it to school because he didn't want to walk from his nearby home. A police officer was driving behind the van but didn't notice that a boy was driving until a school employee pointed it out to him.

Pilots on an Alaska Airlines flight from Mexico City to Los Angeles locked down the cockpit and alerted authorities after the flight crew became concerned about the behavior of three men on board.

It turned out the guys were only conducting an elaborate orthodox Jewish prayer ritual -- however, in the airline's defense-- part of the ritual did include tying small wooden boxes to their bodies with leather straps.

Spokeswoman Bobbie Egan said, "The three passengers were praying aloud in Hebrew and were wearing what appeared to be leather straps on their foreheads and arms." After questioning from the FBI, the men -- all Mexican nationals-- were released. (Sky News)

The dish has been a local delicacy in Dongyang, eastern China, for thousands of years. Now culture officials want to spread the good news about the recipe which they hope to export to other countries.

Hold on to your stomach-- the urine is gathered from local schools and the very best comes from boys under 10 years old -- or so say the chefs. Chef Lu Ming said, "They pee in buckets and we collect it fresh every day." Eggs are then boiled in the urine, first with their shells on and then with them off for a day and a night before they're ready to be eaten. Ming claims, "The eggs are delicious and healthy. Times and Things Have Certainly Changed
(Netscape) When baby boomers were newlyweds, 80% knew how to make a roast for Sunday dinner and hem a pair of pants. Today, less than half of newlyweds know how to do this. Life skills that we once took for granted are rapidly becoming specialized abilities.

No one is teaching the kids how to sew on a button or sharpen a knife. Instead, we now hire people to check the oil in our car, clean our house, cut our children's hair and make the family birthday cakes. While many 20-somethings can stream a movie on their computer and play Scrabble on their phone, they have no idea how to write in cursive or drive a car with a stick shift.

Writing on matadornetwork.com, author Anne Merritt has identified eight life skills where Mom and Dad have 'em beat.

1. Driving a stick shift -- Since more than 90% of all cars sold in the United States today have an automatic transmission -- compared to just half in 1950 -- most young adults have no clue how to shift gears manually. What's a clutch?

2. Cooking from scratch -- While moms in the '70s made homemade brownies, today's moms are more likely to grab a box of brownie mix or buy them at the bakery. Young adults may enjoy cooking shows on TV and even sign up for cooking classes, but they actually cook far less than their parents did. And when they do cook, they use ready-made ingredients, such as chicken stock, tomato paste and pie crusts.

3. Making soap -- All it takes is lye, water, animal fat and oil, but making soap at home is almost obsolete today--except as a middle school science project.

4. Simple carpentry -- When did schools stop offering shop classes? We no longer make a bookcase, end table or kitchen table in the basement utility room. Mass produced furniture is cheap and easy to replace if you're moving or redecorating. And assembling your own Ikea furniture doesn't count as making it yourself.

5. Sharpening knives -- When a knife becomes dull, do you sharpen it yourself or pay a professional to do it--or just buy a new one? It's a simple skill to be able to sharpen a knife, but one that is definitely declining, thanks in part to no-dull guarantees on some knives and free knife-sharpening events at many big box stores.

6. Home maintenance -- Can you replace a broken bathroom exhaust fan? Ever changed the refrigerator light bulb? What do you do when a door hinge becomes so loose the door is in danger of falling off? Young adults are more likely to call a handyman to the rescue. In the 1970s, more than 70% of men learned basic home repair skills from their dads; today, that number is just 40%.

7. Mending -- Whether it's a missing button, a hem or a split seam, most baby boomer women could fix it in a minute--either by hand with a needle and thread or using their sewing machine. When schools stopped teaching home economics, buttons stopped being sewn on and split seams just got bigger--unless you knew a tailor. Clothing is so cheap now, it's actually less expensive to buy it than sew it at home so kids have little incentive to learn how to sew.

8. Cursive writing -- While boomers learned penmanship in the third grade, practicing each letter over and over, young adults never had those lessons. They learned to print and type instead, and if they did learn cursive, many have forgotten it from lack of use.

Woman Goes to Virginia Court with Tiny Monkey in Her Bra
AMHERST, Va. (AP) - A woman turned a few heads when she walked into a rural Virginia courthouse with a tiny monkey clad in a pink-and-white dress tucked in her bra.

The woman brought the palm-sized marmoset to Amherst County Courthouse on Thursday for a hearing in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. Officials apparently didn't notice the monkey until the woman went to an office to complete some paperwork.

In an interview with The News & Advance of Lynchburg, the woman says the marmoset is 7 weeks old and requires constant attention.

The woman tells the newspaper she bought the animal on an online auction site and had its clothes specially made in West Virginia.

If you find marriage boring after seven years, it doesn't get any better. Being bored by the seventh wedding anniversary portends a long, slow descent into marital dissatisfaction. The study from Stony Brook University in New York found that those who were bored with their marriage at year seven experienced a greater decrease in satisfaction at year 16, while those who were not bored at year seven experienced a typically small decrease in satisfaction at year 16.

In a "they-got-paid-to-do-this?" kind of project, the research center of Consumer Reports surveyed 1008 women 18 years and older to ask them intimate questions about their intimate apparel. The results were published in ShopSmart magazine. Intimate findings about intimate apparel:

• Almost half of women (47 percent) say they feel sexier and more confident wearing a nice or special pair of panties. "The first thing we put on in the morning does make a difference in our day," Freeman says.
• 27 percent say their mood is affected by wearing an ill-fitting or unattractive pair of undies.
• On average, a woman has 21 pairs of underwear--enough for three weeks. Why? Less frequent laundry!
• 10 percent of women own 35 or more pairs of panties.

If you have a tough decision to make, sip a sugary drink first. A University of South Dakota study showed that people made better decisions and acted less impulsively when they had higher blood sugar levels.

Students were asked to answer a series of questions designed to test their judgment skills. Half the questions were answered on an empty stomach the other half after consuming either a caffeine free sugary soda or a diet soda. If you want to lose weight, try using more olive oil in your diet. Researchers have found that a type of fat in the oil, oleic acid, sparks the release of a hunger killing lipid hormone once it hits the intestines.

"Eating is one of the most important things animals do," says lead researcher Daniele Pionmelli, of the University of California at Irvine. "This is just one of many things that control it." Conversely, processed foods rich in saturated fats can have the opposite effect, leading people to overeat. But the oleic acid acts on the molecular level to make people feel full.

The discovery could lead to new ways to fight America's war on obesity. Say the researchers: "Nutritional and pharmaceutical strategies aimed at magnifying this lipid sensing mechanism might be useful in treating obesity and other eating disorders."

Watch Out for Energy Drinks
Johns Hopkins University reports there are scores of energy drinks on the market and people in need of a quick boost of get up and go are slurping them down like there's no tomorrow. But there's a problem.

The amount of caffeine in these beverages can range from 50 to 505 milligrams as much as 14 cans of soda or six and a half cups of strong coffee. The problem is made more serious by the fact that manufactures are not required to list the amount of caffeine on the product's label.

Experts warn that over consumption of these drinks could lead to caffeine dependency and other serious side effects, such as insomnia and high blood pressure.

Kennedy underwent X-rays and an MRI and was later examined by team physician and orthopedist Answorth Allen at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Following surgery, Kennedy's recovery time could be between six and eight months.

Swedish Bank Robber Busted by Forgotten Urine
COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) - A Swedish bank robber forgot to cover his tracks and left three bottles of urine behind after hiding inside a bank vault in Copenhagen for three days. The 27-year-old man and his accomplice used the bottles to relieve themselves after sneaking into the vault on a Friday in May and remaining there until the bank opened again the following Monday.

While inside, the robbers emptied 140 safety deposit boxes of at least $500,000 in cash and jewelry. But Prosecutor Frederik Larsen said Wednesday they forgot to take the urine when they left "so we were able to get their DNA samples from the bottles."

The evidence helped prosecutors win a 21-month prison sentence for the Swede on Tuesday. His accomplice is still at large and the loot hasn't been recovered.

America's not getting enough sleep -- and technology is to blame!

A new study from the Washington DC-based National Sleep Foundation says the national penchant for watching television every evening before going to sleep, playing video games late into the night or checking emails and text messages before turning off the lights could be interfering with the nation's sleep habits.

Russell Rosenberg, the vice chairman of the NSF said, "Unfortunately, cell phones and computers, which make our lives more productive and enjoyable, may be abused to the point that they contribute to getting less sleep at night leaving millions of Americans functioning poorly the next day." Nearly 95 percent of people questioned in an NSF study said they used some type of electronics in the hour before going to bed, and about two-thirds admitted they do not get enough sleep during the week.

One in ten kids report being awakened by texts after they have gone to bed. Generation Z'ers, 13-18 year olds, were the most sleep-deprived group, with 22 percent describing themselves as "sleepy," compared to only nine percent of baby- boomers. Lauren Serafin and Robert Leighton were supposed to get married last August. But then Robert had himself a big bachelor party in Las Vegas and apparently "hooked up" with a woman he met during the trip.

Lauren discovered all this after she found some text messages on Robert's cell phone -- because he was too stupid to delete them -- detailing the elicit rendezvous. Florida Panthers General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has recalled forward Tim Kennedy from the Rochester Americans and assigned forward Kenndal McArdle to the Amerks..

Kennedy leaves the Amerks as the team’s current active top point-getter with 43 points (12+31) in 56 combined American Hockey League games with Rochester and Hartford/Connecticut this season.

University at Buffalo forward Javon McCrea today was named the Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year in men’s basketball. He is the first UB player to win the award.

McCrea, a Newark graduate and last year’s All-Greater Rochester Player of the Year, is having one of the finest freshman campaigns in UB history. The 6-foot-6 forward is averaging 11.4 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists. His 330 points is the third-highest single-season total by a freshman in school history.

McCrea leads the Mid-American Conference and ranks third in the nation in field goal percentage (.648). He ranks fourth in the conference in blocked shots with 50 – the second most ever by a UB freshman. His 38 steals are second on the team.

Paramedic Steals Foot from Crash Site
(Miami, Florida - AP)A man who lost his foot and part of his leg in a 2008 crash on I-95 in St. Lucie County is suing a paramedic who swiped the foot from the crash scene.

Cynthia "Cindy" Economou, a former St. Lucie County Fire District firefighter-paramedic, had admitted to taking Karl Lambert's foot after the Sept. 19, 2008, crash but says she took it to train her body recovery dog, according to tcpalm.com.

Economou was sentenced to six months probation in 2009 for second-degree petit theft in the foot swipe, though she told the court at the time that when she found the foot trapped in the wreckage an hour after Lambert was airlifted from the scene, it was unusable.

SHANGHAI (AP) - Barbie is hitting the road as Mattel Inc. closes down its Shanghai flagship store dedicated to the iconic brand after just two years.

The six-story store, complete with spa, cafe, design studio, fashion stage and shelves and shelves of Barbies and Barbie products, closed Monday, the world's biggest toy maker said in a statement explaining that it plans to use its experience in Shanghai to reach customers across China.

"I have gone on a tour of China!" a cartoon Barbie says on the store's website, explaining the brand is on a "Barbie Pink Bus Tour."

Mattel, based in El Segundo, California, inaugurated the store on the 50th birthday of the Barbie brand, bringing together 45 product lines, including trampolines, jewelry and stationery.

Though sales of Barbie and other Mattel dolls have recently shown strong growth back home, the store never took off as a popular destination for local girls.

Researchers from the London School of Economics have discovered that folks with high IQs tend to be night owls, compared to those with modest IQs, who are more likely to rise early and be at their best during the daytime.

Further studies have also found a link between "eveningness" and scoring high grades in school. Still, all is not rosy for those who burn the midnight oil. That Might Not Be Extra Terrestrial Life in that Rock
WASHINGTON (AP) - The gaps and stringy fibers in these space rocks sure look like bacteria, and a NASA researcher has caused a stir with claims that they're fossils of alien life. But as NASA found 15 years ago, looks can be deceiving.

Top scientists in different disciplines immediately found pitfalls in a newly published examination of three meteorites that went viral on the Internet over the weekend. NASA and its top scientists disavowed the work by noon Monday.

Biologists said just because it looks as though the holes were made by bacteria doesn't make them fossils of extraterrestrial microbes. The meteorites could be riddled with Earthly contamination. And both astronomers and biologists complained that the study was not truly reviewed by peers.

There are questions about the credentials of the study's author, Richard Hoover. And the work appeared in an online journal that raises eyebrows because even its editor acknowledges it may have to shut down in June and that one reason for publishing the controversial claim was to help find a buyer.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Savannah's city manager has granted an exemption for Girl Scouts to sell cookies outside the historic mansion of the woman who founded the organization nearly a century ago.

A complaint had halted the longtime practice of selling cookies on the public sidewalk outside the home of Juliette Gordon Low near a busy Savannah intersection. Savannah has an ordinance banning peddling on public sidewalks.

City Manager Rochelle Small-Toney used her power to make specific exemptions to city ordinance to allow the Scouts to continue their sales.

A daily diet of healthy, nutritious low-calorie fare can cost a whopping 10 times more than feasting on calorie rich funk food, says a recent study.

Eating 2000 calories a day costs only $3.52 if taken from a menu of junk food like snacks, baked goods, pastries and candy, say researchers at the University of Washington in Seattle. But consuming the same number of calories cost $36.32 a day if the meals were cooked up with wholesome low calorie foods, including fruits and vegetables.

The prices of healthy foods were much more likely to be boosted by inflation than tasty treats that feature easy to come by ingredients like salt, sugar and grease. During the two year study, the cost of junk foods increased a measly 1.8 percent while prices for nourishing, low calorie foods skyrocketed by 19.5 percent.

News Flash: There's Actually a Meat Hall of Fame!
Who knew there was such thing as a Meat Hall of Fame? Well, there is. It's in Wisconsin and the Meat Industry Hall of Fame will be inducting five new members this spring -- including the munchkin coroner from the Wizard of Oz! That would be Meinhardt Raabe who represented Oscar Mayer & Co. as "Little Oscar" and played a key part in the company's early efforts to gain brand recognition. Mr. Raabe, took a leave from his job at Oscar Mayer to play the role of munchkin coroner for the movie Wizard of Oz (Think: "She's not only merely dead, she's really, most sincerely dead!). The resulting celebrity further propelled the Little Oscar character and Oscar Mayer products to new markets throughout the nation. Raabe died in 2009. Inductees will be recognized at the annual meeting of the Wisconsin Livestock and Meat Council on May 12, 2011. We're pretty sure tickets are still available. (Wisconsin News)

FYI: Making "Cat Bombs" Is a Felony!
In Berkeley County, West Virginia, 42-year-old Brian Michael Bailey has been arrested for allegedly manufacturing what he called "cat bombs!" Those would be bottled concoctions of toilet bowl cleaner and aluminum foil that he threw at stray cats in his backyard. They would explode on impact, thus scaring away the kitties. Unfortunately this is quite illegal and Bailey now faces one felony count of illegal possession of destructive devices, explosive material or incendiary devices. At his residence, police found three plastic bottles that had been exploded, several pieces of aluminum foil balls and some liquid inside one of the soda bottles. In a handwritten statement, Bailey told police that he made two of the "cat bombs" Monday and several more in the past couple of days. Neighbors, who apparently love kitties, called the cops on him. Defense Lawyers Are Amazing!
In Waterloo, Iowa, 53-year-old former high school teacher Larry David Twigg has been arrested and charged with six misdemeanor counts of lascivious conduct with a minor. Allegedly, Mr. Twigg had a 17-year-old student come to his home and take a chocolate syrup shower, play strip video games and make a snow angel in his boxers. But his defense attorney, James Metcalf, has asked the judge to dismiss the charges saying a state psychiatrist found that Twigg didn't have the general intent to commit the crime when the alleged incident happened. And, the psychiatrist hired by the state --- Dr. Michael Taylor --- is expected to offer an opinion that Twigg's acts weren't sexually motivated. Under Iowa law, the offense requires that the act must be done to arouse or satisfy a sexual desire. Hmmm, maybe it's just me but the last time I remember having someone take a chocolate syrup shower, play strip video games with me and make a snow angel their underwear -- it was DAMN SEXY! Stray Dog Takes Over Family's Fridge!
In Yuma, Arizona, a stray dog darted into an Arizona apartment and decided his new hang out would be inside the refrigerator. The family told firefighters the pooch rushed into their home when they opened the front door and kept snapping at them. When they went to the fridge to get some food to try to lure the dog outside, the animal jumped in the fridge and refused to come out. Firefighters found the small black terrier-type dog crouched on the bottom shelf, snapping at anyone who approached. They used protective gear to pick up the pooch and put it in a carrier. The dog had been reported missing by someone else at the apartment complex and was returned home safely. (myway.com)

Retail giant Walmart recently announced that it would soon offer a full line of makeup specifically for girls 8-year-olds and up. The GeoGirl line includes mascara, sheer lip gloss, pink blush and purple eye shadow, all supposedly designed for young skin. The City Commission of San Antonio, Florida-- population 1,052 has been busy. They want to make sure their quaint southern town is free from sex offenders. So they got together and passed an ordinance restricting, to a tiny portion of town, the only place where registered sex offenders can live. Ironically, the city has only one registered sex offender, and that guy is exempt from the law-- because he already lives there! A Poet And He Knows It!
David Morice is a teacher at Kirkwood Community College in Iowa City, Iowa fancies himself a poet and decided last year to write one giant poem adding 100 new pages of poetry every day for 100 days, until he had a book totaling 10,000 pages. The University of Iowa Libraries published the finished poem, online and in a 2-foot-high hardcopy stack. He even got some press from the Iowa City Press Citizen which published a 480-word article describing Morice's feat, yet strangely didn't include even a hint about the poems' subject matter. Morice is now working on his next project -- rewriting Dante's Inferno in limerick form. No kidding. (Iowa City Press-Citizen)

• Don't clog the toilet. If you stop up their toilet by accident, clean it yourself. Overflowing sewage doesn't impress anyone and they'll be pleased with your effort.

When it Comes to Bargain Hunting Women Rule.
A recent study shows that a substantial 60% of female shoppers are more interested in getting a good deal than quality merchandise while only 31% are more fixated on finding superior made goods.

Men were almost the exact opposite with 50% of them more interested in quality while only 43% said price mattered most. But the Adweek Media/Harris Poll numbers also showed that our preferences change as we age and we become increasingly interested in quality over cost.

Price trumped quality by 58 to 33% in people ages 18 to 34, by 53 to 44% in people ages 35 to 44, and by 51 to 47% in people ages 45 to 54. And in folks 55 and over, the trend reverses.

Most, 49%, prefer top quality stuff while only 44% put price first. "My wife is always telling me: 'Look how much money I saved,'" says one married man. "But the truth is, the more she saves, the more she spends."

Las Vegas chef Hubert Keller has created a gourmet whopper burger, but is not called that because it is big it is the whopping price tag a staggering $5,000 that makes it a whopper of a burger.

Served at the Mandalay Bay's fancy Fleur eatery, the pricey munch is made from ultra-costly ingredients Kobe beef topped with goose liver foie gras and black truffles, served on a brioche truffle bun dripping with truffle sauce.

Kobe ground beef can cost more than $30 a pound. But that is nothing compared to truffles.

The rare, earthy flavored underground growing mushroom can sell for a staggering $2,000 a pound. However it is not the fancy fungus or the Japanese beef that makes Chef Keller's whopper worth a king's ransom. It is the beverage. Each burger comes with a bottle of Chateau Petrus 1995 wine, which the eatery sells separately for $5,300 per bottle.

So you find it hard to start conversations with people you don't know well?
You don't have to worry about trying controversial subjects like politics and religion. Try these openers to get you talking:

• "Who is the most interesting person you have ever met?" This certainly gets people thinking and talking about people they have met and leads you to ask, "Why?"

• "Where in the world would you most like to visit?" Maybe it's a location shared by many people leading to a common interest and of course, once again, you can ask "Why?"

• "Who's had the biggest influence in your life?" Generally, they will think of a positive person and be very willing to talk further about them and why that influence is positive.

"What has been the most life-changing experience you have ever had?" This could be something good or even something tragic that has affected their life to a great degree. It should lead to a long conversation.

• "What is the most spontaneous thing you have ever done?" From funny to brave and adventurous stories, this is a good opener.

• "What thing that you haven't done yet would you most like to do?" Maybe a career move? A new family, a change of lifestyle? This is where you can join in and talk about your aspirations, too.

• "What is the best quality you've inherited from either of your parents?" This is a particularly appropriate topic at family gatherings as most people will know who you are talking about.

• "From which person have you learned most in your life?" Another uplifting positive topic of conversation.

• "What historical figure do you most identify with?" This really opens up the conversation into the era the figure lived in and events surrounding their life. Yes, it can get into politics or religion but generally, people treat this question in the fun that was intended and steer away from being too serious.

• "What kind of music do you like?" This gives you a great insight into other people but don't let the subject close. An interesting aside is to ask "What is the most embarrassing album in your collection?" Answers to this one are usually hilarious.

If You Could Go Back in Time Would You Marry the Same Person Again
22% of married women said that if they could go back in time and do it all over again, they would marry a different man. Only 12% of married men feel the same way about their wife.

According to a British survey commissioned by Bradford & Bingley bank, which also asked men and women over the age of 35 to name their biggest regrets in life. In addition to marrying the wrong person, 30% wish they had a different career, while 37% regret they haven't saved more money.

The #1 regret was travel as 53% said they wished they had traveled more before settling down.

The Golden Years May Come Sooner Than You Think
The Golden Years may come sooner than you think. A survey shows that people tend to find true happiness at the age of 50, when they are typically more financially secure than their earlier years, are more content with their body shape and image, and have more time to pursue their interests now that their kids are grown.

"With increased life expectancy, 50 is considered relatively young these days," notes a spokesman for Engage Mutual, the company that conducted the survey of nearly 1,500 people 50 and older. "And if they've been able to maintain a healthy lifestyle and plan their fiances, they may start to feel the benefit of their efforts in these years."

The study reveals that 4 in 10 people older than 50 feel more content with their lives than ever, and the ones who do not are typically saddled with financial woes, health problems and/or concerns for their children. But those who have managed to stay healthy, pay off the mortgage and usher their kids into a state of independence are experiencing the exact opposite of a middle age crisis.

Bad News for Mets Fans

NEW YORK (AP) - The New York Times is reporting that Major League Baseball will not make another substantial loan to the cash-strapped New York Mets.

Citing two unidentified people briefed on the club's finances, The Times reported on its website Tuesday night that the Mets can't count on receiving any more money from the commissioner's office to help cover expenses.

When contacted by The Associated Press, a Mets official declined to comment. MLB spokesman Pat Courtney also had no comment.

Hounded by a multimillion dollar lawsuit filed by the trustee trying to recover money for victims of the Bernard Madoff Ponzi scheme, the Mets acknowledged Friday that they received a loan from MLB in November to help meet their financial obligations.

The New York Times and Daily News reported that the loan amount was $25 million.

A whopping 78 million Americans have no credit cards. And most folks are cardless by choice, not because they have been turned down.

In an effort to cut spending and reduce personal debt, more than 8 million folks stopped using the cards in just the past year alone, according to the credit research company, TransUnion. In the same time, the average credit card debt per person dropped more than 11 percent, to $4,964.

A little used drug, which works by blocking the pleasurable effects of drinking alcohol, can help keep many addicts sober, according to a review of previously published studies on the subjects.

Patients who took Naltrexone were 17 percent less likely to return to heavy drinking than those who were given a placebo. "That would mean that Naltrexone can be expected to prevent heavy drinking in one out of eight patients who would otherwise have returned to a heavy drinking pattern," said Dr. Michael Soyka from the University of Munich. "In an age dominated by social media where personal photographs are ubiquitous, it becomes important to understand the ways personality is communicated via our appearance," study researcher Laura Naumann told LiveScience.com. "The appearance one portrays in his or her photographs has important implications for their professional and social life." So how can you make sure your photos show who you are in the best light? Smile.

"If you want potential employers or romantic suitors to see you as a warm and friendly individual, you should post pictures where you smile or are standing in a relaxed pose," Naumann told LiveScience.com. 5 Germiest Places at or Near the Airport
USA Today had a recent article about the "5 germiest places at the airport and on the plane" and offers his tips for avoiding bacteria and viruses that could make you sick.

1. The airplane bathroom. With dozens using lavatories on a flight, the airplane washroom is hands-down the germiest place on the trip. Numerous studies have shown that these are teeming with E. coli on almost every surface. Because they are rarely sanitized between flights, there is also the cumulative effect of hundreds of users before it gets a good scrubbing. Solution: Avoid using the on-board facilities if at all possible.

2. The floor at security. As you stroll barefooted through the security checkpoint, have you considered the millions who have gone before you? Athlete's foot and other fungal infections can easily be left behind, just waiting for their next host. Solution: Don't go barefoot, bring socks.

3. Airline magazines and catalogs. Studies show that many people don't bother to wash their hands at all, even when using the airplane restroom. One study found that as many as 30% don't wash up after using the airport restroom, either. Add in the usual coughs, sneezes and runny noses that carry thousands of germs to every surface, and those magazines and catalogs in the seatback pocket are a virtual biohazard. Solution: Bring your own reading materials.

4. The airport water fountain. Public drinking fountains can harbor as many as 2.7 million bacteria per square inch on the spigot. Solution: Buy bottled water.

5. Airline pillows and blankets. On a typical flight with 100 passengers, statistics show that about five will be ill with a cold or the flu. In other words, there's a good chance you could be using a pillow that's been drooled or sneezed on within the past hour. Solution: Bring your own.

The Upstate New York "5-Day Local Weather Forecast"

TODAY – we’ll have rain with a high today rising to the lower 40’s falling into the upper 30’s later this afternoon.

TONIGHT – we could have some more rain this evening but turning partly cloudy overnight with an overnight low tonight around 20.

The Amerks Win All Weekend
Keaton Ellerby netted an overtime beauty just a minute into the extra session that lifted the Rochester Americans over the Syracuse Crunch 2-1 this afternoon at The Blue Cross Arena. The win is the Amerks’ third straight in three days and they have collected a point in nine of their last 10 games, tying them for fifth place in the American Hockey League’s North Division with the Abbotsford Heat. Rochester is now 28-27-3-3 overall, while Syracuse slips to 20-32-3-4 in the loss.

Friday night they hosted and beat the Manitoba Moose 5-3, Saturday night on the road they defeated the Binghamton Senators 3-2.

The next Moose action is on the road this coming Friday and Saturday as they head for Grand Rapids, Michigan to take on the Griffins. The Amerks won’t play at home again until Friday night March 11th when they host the Toronto Marlies.

No Girl Scout Cookies Allowed to be Sold Outside Girl Scout Founders Home
SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Girl Scouts are no longer able to sell their famous cookies outside the historic Savannah home of the woman who founded the organization almost a century ago.

A complaint last year ended the longtime practice of selling the cookies on the public sidewalk outside the home of Juliette Gordon Low at the busy intersection of Bull Street and Oglethorpe Avenue. Peddling on a public sidewalk is a violation of city ordinance. One city alderman said he thinks the city should consider a temporary exception for cookie season.

The city's zoning administrator, Randolph Scott, said he investigated the matter and tried to find a solution. He said he called for a survey, hoping there would be some private space between the home and the sidewalk. He said there wasn't any.

Scott said they also looked at allowing the Scouts to sell from a small courtyard on the side of the house, but fire marshals told the Scouts they would block an exit route. The home is a National Historic Landmark open for tours.

Size 14 women are the happiest with their life and looks, a recent study reveals. A quarter of gals who wear that dress size are as thrilled as can be with their situations, while 43% of size 14s were pleased as punch with their careers and almost 33% are content with their love life.

Second happiest are size 12s, followed by size 8, size 16, size 10, size 6 and size 18. Women who wear size 24 or higher did not fare as well, with 18% admitting they are extremely unhappy with their love lives and less than 4% are happy with their careers.

The poll, conducted by Special K cereal, reveals that a staggering 48% of all gals are unhappy with their weight. More than two-thirds say they're not at their ideal dress size, while the average woman longs to be a perfect size 10, the researchers add. Nearly half of the men Men's Health surveyed said they've fallen asleep at the wheel. And that number may be even higher in the most sleep deprived cities. While there are lost of ways to try to stay awake en route, Swedish researchers found that most of us rely on these strategies.

The most effective solution, however, is to simply take a nap:

• Take a short walk. Yes, it works. In a U.S. Army study, 10 minutes of exercise helped sleep deprived pilots stay awake for up to 30 minutes.
• Open the window. No, it does not work. When drivers in a British study were blasted with cool air, they didn't report feeling any more alert.
• Drink coffee. Yes, it works. British researchers found that drowsy drivers who consumed 200 milligrams of caffeine felt less sleepy.

We do not need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows, say America's pet owners. 67% are confident that their furry, feathered and even finned friends can predict an approaching storm, according to a new Associated Press/Petside.com poll.

Pooch owners are most convinced of their four-legged friend's ability:

> 72% say Fido is a great weather prognosticator.

> 66% of cat owners and 59% of fish fanciers say Fluffy and Goldie are their go-to predictors of stormy weather.

> 77% of folks with other types of pets have noticed this skill, too. Sound odd? Not to animal experts who agree that storms create a static electric charge that pets can most likely sense, along with their owner's apprehension.

The Amerks Lose
After going 65 full minutes without one goal scored in regulation, the Rochester Americans eventually came up short in the shootout, falling 1-0 to the Manitoba Moose in the first of back-to-back home tilts against their division rivals at The Blue Cross Arena. Rochester has now lost two of their last three games and falls to 26-27-3-3 on the season.

Brazil Firefighters Find Alligator Behind Couch
SAO PAULO (AP) - Firefighters say they have removed a 5-foot-long long alligator who was hiding behind a couch after floodwaters washed it into a home in northern Brazil.

Capt. Luiz Claudio Farias of the Parauapebas city fire department says that when the floodwaters receded on Tuesday, a woman saw her 3-year-old son petting something behind the couch. It was an alligator.

He says "she snatched the boy away and called" firefighters.
Farias said Wednesday the alligator was apparently well fed. "If he was hungry he could have seriously hurt or even killed the boy."

The alligator was taken to an environmentally protected area near the city and released into a river.

The Sabres/Amerks Farm Club Reunion Not Likely

Buffalo Sabres fans’ are rejoicing the arrival of new owner Terry Pegula.

Rochester Americans fans that want their team to be affiliated with the Sabres aren’t so happy.

While Pegula yesterday, boldly proclaimed that “Starting today, the Buffalo Sabres’ reason for existence will be to win a Stanley Cup,” and the new team president, Ted Black, declared that Buffalo now “is hockey heaven” due to a great owner, there apparently won’t be any immediate affiliation renewal with the Amerks.

The Sabres deal with the AHL’s Portland Pirates runs through the 2013-14 season. There are options to make it last longer.

“I know the fans here long for the good old days,” Black said. “But I’m not sure that change is going to come that quickly, given we have a contract.”

Pegula himself admitted that, as a fan, he didn’t understand why the Sabres were stocking a team so far away when for 29 years they had one of the most logical, convenient affilations in the NHL.

Even the CIA and the Air Force Can Get Conned!
It's a little scary to think about, but apparently even the CIA and the Air Force can be conned. Both were duped into purchasing and using software which supposedly could detect terrorist plots. But it turned out to be nothing more than a hoax.

Embarrassed federal officials are obviously not disclosing details in the name of national security. The stunt reportedly cost the federal government $20 million since 2003, when it contracted California computer programmer Dennis Montgomery to decipher coded messages hidden in the TV broadcasts of Arab news network Al Jazeera using special software he developed.

What's really baffling is there are also reports that the CIA knew the program was fake from the very start but contracted Montgomery anyway and that Montgomery still landed more businesses even after the FBI learned in a 2006 investigation that he presented fake test results to government officials.

The Justice Department has been allowed by two federal judges to keep details of the technology out of court on grounds that disclosing state secrets would threaten national security. Montgomery and his lawyers have declined to comment. (AHN News)

Apparently Supersizing Is A Rip-Off!
Supersizing that fast-food meal may be the biggest rip-off of all time-- at least according to college student and McDonald's regular Allen Hsu of New Zealand. He wanted to find out if he there was true value in supersizing a medium McDonald's combo to the large size after he became concerned at the similarity between the two sizes.

The 18-year-old counted the number of fries in three packs of medium McDonald's fries and three packs of large fries and found his initial suspicions proved right-- there were only 14 more fries in the large size. And one of the large fries had only one more French fry than a medium serving. Independent tests conducted by the New Zealand Herald yielded similar results finding there was only a 12 French fry difference between the medium and large sizes at McDonald's.

McDonald's communication manager Christine Dennis said the fries' box size determined the amount of fries served as restaurant staff were trained to fill the packs. And Burger King's no better.

On average, there was the same number of fries in Burger King's small-sized fries as the medium despite the 40 cents difference in price. Burger King's Rachel Allison said their medium-size french fries container was designed to hold 35 per cent more than the small size but this could differ depending on the server in each restaurant.

KFC apparently not only does chicken right but supersized fries right too as their large size of french fries have almost twice the number of fries and twice the weight compared with their small size. (NZ Herald)

Remember -- Never Eat Another Person's Thin Mints!
In Naples, Florida, 31-year-old Hersha Howard was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after attacking her roommate for eating her Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies!

Howard's roommate, Jasmin Wanke, told deputies she was asleep when Howard burst into her bedroom and accused her of eating the cookies. Wanke said she gave them to Howard's kids because they were awake and hungry at 1 a.m. The women began to argue, then Howard reportedly jumped on top of Wanke and struck her in the face. The two continued to fight until Wanke's husband separated them. When Wanke walked out of the bedroom, Howard allegedly grabbed a pair of scissors and began chasing and threatening her. As the women ran down the stairs, Howard reportedly dropped the scissors, picked up a board and struck Wanke. Wanke then ran to the kitchen, where Howard confronted and attacked her again, according to the Sheriff's Office. Wait -- there's more.

During the fight, Howard bit Wanke on the breast and continued to hit her until the two were separated again. We're not done yet! The women then ran out of the house where Howard reportedly picked up a sign and struck Wanke with it several times. Wanke's husband tackled Howard before deputies arrived and finally arrested her.

Canada Wants To Send Hockey Puck To the Moon!
Most countries dream of sending a man to the moon. Then there's Canada -- where a group of space buffs want to make a hockey puck boldly go where no hockey puck has gone before.

The Vancouver group is one of 29 teams from 17 countries competing in the latest race to the moon: the Google Lunar X Prize, an effort funded by the web giant to encourage commercial space development.

Teams on four continents are trying to land a spacecraft on the lunar surface before the end of 2015 in order to win a chunk of the $30 million in prize money. The goal of competitors is to send a robot to the moon which travels at least 500 meters and transmits video, images and data back to Earth.

The Canadian group, called "Plan B," also want to put a hockey puck on the lunar surface to honor their beloved Vancouver Canucks. Their only question is which will happen sooner -- sending a puck to the moon or the Canucks winning the Stanley Cup! (Reuters)

If you want to just go ahead and shred your man card, you might want to check out the new men's group formed by two San Francisco-area counselors. They call it "Men of Tears" -- a male support group to encourage crying.

According to one reporter who observed a meeting, nine men recounted touching events in their lives, accompanied by tears that, according to the counselors, make them emotionally stronger and less hostile.

One of the counselors praised the recent public cries by Speaker of the House John Boehner and hoped that President Obama, who stopped just short of tears at the memorial service for victims of the recent Tucson, Ariz., shootings, would someday step over that line. (San Francisco Chronicle)

In Arlington Heights, Illinois, one high school health-class instructor's technique for teaching the names of female reproductive parts caught has outraged the religious organization, The Illinois Family Institute, as well as some parents.

To some of the kids, teacher Jacqulyn Levin's "game" was nothing more than a fun way to help memorize the anatomy, but others told the institute that Levin's play on words could be set to the tune of the "Hokey Pokey," and was referred to by several students as "the vagina dance."

Sugar Has Apparently Got a Bad Rap
Sugar has gotten a bad name because of the obesity epidemic plaguing the nation, but a shot of the sweet stuff can keep you from blowing your top.

Ohio State University scientists were surprised to find that sugar sweetened lemonade cooled hot tempers. "Avoiding aggressive impulses takes self control, and self control takes a lot of energy," explains study, co-head Professor Brad Bushman. "Glucose provides energy in the brain. "Drinking sweetened lemonade helped provide the short term energy needed to avoid lashing out at others."

The study tested aggression by allowing subjects to blast an unseen partner with an irritating noise similar to a smoke alarm. The subject who drank the sugar-laced lemonade chose much lower levels of the irritating white noise to hit their partners with than those who had a drink with an artificial, no calorie sweetener.

"This is the first study to find that boosting glucose levels can reduce actually aggressive behavior," says the professor. "The results suggest that people who reportedly 'snap' with aggression may need some way to boost their mental energy so they can override their aggressive impulses." (National Examiner)
